How the Motability scheme works - Eligibility
Motability is a national UK charity which helps disabled people and their families to become more mobile. It was set up on the initiative of the Government in 1977, to provide vehicles and powered wheelchairs to disabled people. If you recive the higher rate of Disability Living Allowance (DLA or WPMS) then you are eligible for the Motability Scheme.

If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, getting a new car is easier and more affordable than ever. Through Motability, you simply turn part or all of that allowance into the car of your choice.
No waiting lists. No credit checks. No assessments required.
We offer the facility to Part Exchange your current car if you are not currently on the Motability Scheme.
Motability's Contract Hire agreement, which gives you:
- Insurance, servicing and maintenance
- Full RAC breakdown assistance
- Annual tax disc
- Tyre and windscreen replacement
- 60,000 mileage allowance over 3 years
- Many adaptations at no extra cost
- You don't have to drive - you can nominate up to two other drivers and pay a little extra for a third

These are:
A Contract Hire Scheme for New Cars - Available on a three-year hire lease, this is the simplest way of having a brand new car. One regular payment each month covers:
- Comprehensive insurance
- Road Tax
- Free replacement tyres
- Replacement of windscreens or windows
- RAC breakdown cover
- 60,000 miles maintenance, servicing and repairs
- Plus, if the car comes back in good condition after three years without any insurance claims you’ll be eligible for £200 from Motability.
A Hire Purchase Scheme for new or used cars -This contract allows you to own the car after contract periods of three up to five years. You arrange and pay for:
- Insurance,
- Breakdown assistance (if you want it)
- Repairs/Maintenance
- Tyres
The benefits are:
- Vision Vauxhall will support you through the full life-cycle of your ownership
- Adaptations do not need reinstallation every three years
- Maximum 3 drivers will be accepted by insurance company
- 60,000 mileage limit.
- Business use as agreed with insurance company
Once a customer has chosen which scheme they wish to join, they then agree to pay over all, or part of their mobility allowance (DLA or WPMS), depending on their choice of vehicle, for the duration of their contract hire, or hire purchase agreement.
